Is it really Friday again?

I realize that I have neglected my little diary all this week. It has just been one of those weeks. You know...we all have them. I have kept myself busy in my kitchen all week, preparing different things and freezing them for future dinners. We began the week with Brittany still being ill and yesterday I finally succumbed to this dreadful sore throat and cold. I slept well last night thanks to Tylenol Multi-symptom Night Time Cold remedy...and I am feeling better today. Just kinda taking it easy and resting my voice.

We did have our picnic last Friday...by the time Brittany came home she was feeling pretty rough and so we didn't have our picnic on the floor...we just ate it at the table...but the food was good and tasted of summertime. My husband kept his distance from her sickness...he studied in his office...and Brittany and I snuggled under blankets and watched Fried Green Tomatoes. I have been wanting to see that movie again for a long time...she watched it and loved it as well.

Saturday...I had the pure pleasure of babysitting my 2 year old niece Emily. She actually spent the night with us and most of Sunday with us as well. If you know me at all you know that I love the pitter -patter of little feet in my house...so I was in my glory. My brother wasn't too worried that Brittany was sick...they had all just gotten over the same thing...Brittany tried to stay away from her...but my niece and nephew just love their cousin Brittany...so I told Brittany not to get in her face...here's to hoping that little Emily is still healthy.

Monday...I was in the midst of baking my bread for the week and making my cereal when I realized that the deadline to send in Brittany's graduation papers was that day! I first panicked...but everything was ready so it was really just a matter of signing a check and taking it to the post office to be post marked. That is one of those big things off of my list! (Big bites!, Debbie)

Wednesday...I began to feel the dreaded sinus headache...but I made homemade Italian sauce and the kitchen smelled wonderful all day. I was able to store up 2 quarts...plus a cup (for pizza sauce) and have it for dinner that night in a meat sauce over spaghetti. It is such great recipe...it just tastes so much fresher and I know the ingredients that I am using. I'll post it on my kitchen blog soon.

Thursday...I was really feeling not well at all but I had so much that I wanted to do...so I made fresh chicken broth...it is one of the staples that I always have on hand and I just like to make my own...so had a pot of chicken and vegetables simmering all day long. I also used up the rest of my apples...and made probably about a quart of apple butter. So, my house smelled like apples, cinnamon and chicken all day yesterday.

Friday...today? I am taking a day of rest...just to let this cold not get the better of me...I think, perhaps I'll spend the day reading...I am reading a really fun book called..Daring Chloe...this young woman was dumped by a text message on her wedding day. It is a fun story as she is in a book club of woman who not only read books and share...but do some of the activities that they read about. It is light reading and enjoyable...it is actually part one of a series...that I think I might like to finish...the book again is...Daring Chloe (Getaway Girls #1) by Laura Jensen Walker...good for some light-hearted laughs.

I hope all of you have had a good week...I plan on making my rounds and stopping by your blogs to say hello this weekend...I have missed you all.

Just a note...my brother his name is Stephen...was laid off this past Sunday night...yep, he got the call Sunday night. He is quite worried as he has a young family...these are scary times that we face. If you could put him on your prayer lists...I would greatly appreciate it. We'll do what we can to help him get over this hump...prayer is that sure thing!

God bless,
Joyce Marie

  1. Hi Joyce,
I was wondering about you. I was thinking of sending you a little message to say "I miss you" :) Thank you for the updating us on your week. I did one these posts back on Wednesday too.
I like to cook and freeze things ahead of time. Don't you just love to be able to pull things out of the freezer instead of going out to eat?
We too had sinus problems this week, I am thinking spring is in the air :)
I'm sorry about your brother, my heart goes out for him and his family. May the Lord supply him with work very soon.
    Glad you are back,
    (((((hugs))))

  2. I'm so glad you're back! I've missed your smiling face!
I hope you can fight off that cold and your house can be healthy again. I'm amazed at all you accomplished, while not feeling well.

I'm looking forward to your recipe for your meat sauce. Do you put sugar in yours? I do and it makes it sooooo good!

I could smell your chicken and apple aromas as I was reading your post. Smelled wonderful and cozy!

    I pray you'll have a wonderful day!

  4. I have missed you dear friend!

But I understand how it is when you are not doing well. I hope that you are resting and drinking lots of tea and soup :) These are the liquids that I take while I am sick.

I am glad that you had everything ready for those papers to be sent out. That is somthing you can now take off your to do list!

Praying dear Joyce, that you feel better soon! I know that these times are a bit scary, but remember that He is in control of everything.

    In His Peace,

    Maria

  5. Glad you're on the mend.
Sounds like quite a fruitful week in spite of being sick.
I did the OAMC twice and enjoyed it so much. Just haven't been able to do it again. It is so nice to be able to just pull something out of the freezer, add a salad or veggie and you're done!
    Good to see your back!
