Well, I survived my daughter driving solo for the first time. I have to admit I did pretty darn well. I watched her from the front door as she pulled out of the driveway. Her first solo trip was to Walmart...and she brought me home a dozen of these beauties! They are bright pink and they are lovely...and I love the fact that she knew I was probably nervous and she just wanted me to know that she is going to be ok.
Yesterday...she drove to the mall with a friend. It was easier the second time around. The biggie is today as she'll drive to her job for the first time alone. I know she'll do well. The top speed on that trip is only 30 miles per hour...so I feel pretty good. It's a longer trip...but she'll do just great. I have to keep reminding myself that I don't have to leave here soon and drop her off. It's weird...but one of those necessary transitions in life.
Most of you are probably thinking "enough already!". I can't help it...these are big times in the life of a family and when you only get to go through it once...everything is a big deal or you might just miss out on something...so I have learned to stop and take the time to appreciate all these little baby steps.
I am getting so excited for our getaway trip...one of the best things about the whole trip is we'll be far into Amish Country...which is one of the loveliest places to visit and since I am a country girl at heart...I just bask in the slow lifestyle there.
I'll post more next week...hopefully some pictures too.
Blessings!
Joyce Marie
My ds(17) just started driving by himself to work and to the community college...so I understand the nervousness...and how proud you feel too!

I can so relate to those feelings you are having. I still worry when my boys drive somewhere and they have been driving for 6 and 4 years respectively!! It's the job of the Momma to worry!! lol
ReplyDeleteYou'll love being freed up from taking her places, though. I have to say, that has been wonderful. Also, having them go to the store for me is great! Time does march on and I guess we have to march with it. *sigh*
I hope you have a wonderful time on your getaway!!
Love, Julie
When Ted started driving on his own, I would stand at the back door every night, praying for him to pull into the driveway. One night David said "you can't do this every night!"
ReplyDeleteThe first weekend he had his license, it poured down rain, which made me a nervous wreck!
However, 2 years down the road and he has done so well. Pretty soon it will feel like she's been driving a long time, but you'll still be praying:)
Can't wait to see some pictures!
My dau. and I drove over to Amboy this morning to a little Amish store and limited ourselves to buying FIVE things. We did pretty good, we came out with six. lol
ReplyDeleteHer first trip when she gets her license or permit is to the Amboy store...backroads all the way. yay.
So glad that Brittany did so well with her driving. I'm sure she was pretty happy, too!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful time in Amish country...it's one of my favorite places to go, too! Are you going to the Strasburg Railroad? :) So many beautiful spots in that area. Enjoy!
