I was sound asleep last Friday morning when with a start I woke up in a panic...realizing that this week marked the middle of April. Oh yes...for some strange reason...just being busy with home and school life I thought we were still in the month of March...I mean, I knew this was April but really but I guess it hadn't quite hit me that it was really April. Six more weeks of homeschooling for me. Six more weeks??? How in the world did I get here so fast. It was just yesterday that we were sitting closely at the table working on math problems wasn't it? Or wasn't it just last week that we were reading Farmer Boy or Mr Pines Purple House? I can see those days so very clearly in my mind (Seems like I can remember every detail). I am finding myself wanting to just slow down and give lots of hugs to my daughter. I better get my emotions in check as I have to put on my happy face soon and hand her her diploma.
Last Saturday, we took full advantage of sunshine and blossoming trees and snapped some pretty pictures that we'll use on her grad announcements. She and I spent and afternoon creating the perfect one this week...actually we narrowed it down to our top two choices. We stepped away from that project for a couple days so that when we go back we can see them with new eyes and make our final choice.
Today...we let our fingers do the walking on marthastewart.com and found a few really cute things that we can do to add some color and decoration to the picnic shelter that we have reserved. I really need to decide on my food. This is where I am being stumped...worried about keeping cold things cold and hot things hot in a shelter. I am still working out those details. Suggestions welcome!
Anybody go to a Tax Day Tea Party? We drove up to Cleveland this past Sunday as the Tea Party Express was making their way through Ohio on their last leg of the tour before they make there way to D. C. today. It was very uplifting...Brittany and I have attended 3 local Tea Parties...the last one was in our home town...over 7,000 people attended last August. I love celebrating my country with fellow patriots...looking around as the crowd dispersed last Sunday evening...not even a speck of paper was left on the grass. No angry mobs...or guns...no yelling or screaming. Just lots of God-fearing, country-loving Patriots. If you ever get an opportunity to go to one of the Tea Party Express tours...it is a lot of fun!
Whew! That was a lot to catch up on...
Joyce Marie
Sounds like you and Brittany are well on your way to having everything ready for graduation. Boys are not interested, in the least bit, in helping out with the details!
ReplyDeleteThere is actually a Tea Party tonight in Beaumont, but David is coming in from Dallas tonight, so we'll be missing it.
About the food - I know that the party stores sell those aluminum pans with the racks and burners underneath, for keeping things warm. If you have cold stuff (potato salad, etc.) you can get big plastic bowls at the dollar store, put the food in the middle, and surround the dish with ice (inside the big bowl).
Keep moving! You're doing great!
Hi, Joyce,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have been busy! What fun it must be to help your daughter celebrate her graduation from high school. I remember a few years back we celebrated our oldest daughter's graduation from Kindergarten, but it was a small family celebration.
The seniors in our Christian school always have a picnic the day after they graduate and have hundreds of people come by for a few hours. They keep the hot food (grilled chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers) in coolers~and it stays nice and warm. The cold food is in bowls, then placed in larger bowls that have ice in them. (Your first commenter mentioned this idea). I am looking forward to hearing aobut your menu...and all the beautiful memories you will be making!
Blessings~
Congratulations dear friend, you have made it to the last few weeks! Yes, the time does go fast, but in retrospect, you know without a doubt, that you taught your daughter the Word, that you showed her how to be a Godly woman. She has you as an example :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these last few weeks. Especially awaiting the celebration to come :)
May Our Lord bless you & keep you,
Maria
Oh, my goodness. You know I was going through exactly the same emotions you are at this time last year. I still can't believe my homeschooling career is behind me. I still miss it. *insert tear here* However, it's wonderful seeing my boys grow into wonderful young men who love Jesus. You can be so proud of your career as a homeschool Mommy. Brittany is such a wonderful, sweet young lady who loves Jesus!!!
ReplyDeleteWe actually had a tea party here tonight, but I was unable to go because I'm sick. :( I am hoping to make it to the next one.
I know you'll make beautiful announcements and have a gorgeous party. You're just that way! :) Enjoy this special time - it really is a momentous occassion that just goes by so fast.
God bless you, my friend!!
Love, Julie
We three attended a local Tea Party rally last Saturday. It was interesting because a couple young fellas, probably early 20's, came up to me at different times, acting 'like they didn't know what was going on' and quizzed me on things about the gathering and Obama and abortion, etc. I didn't give them much of my time, just smiled and eventually they went away. My sister later told me (she is a Tea Party Veteran-lol, it was our first time as a family going) that liberals come to the rallies and ask questions, etc. There was a group behind me that questioned and commented loudly on every subject the speakers addressed.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting, but saddening in a way to see such young minds so hateful and unhappy with life. One of the young men had his son Charlie with him and Charlie was always getting scolded or yelled at during our time 'together'.
Charlie has been on my heart.
He is going to grow up with the Lord.
Actually on my last comment, I meant to say that Charlie is going to grow up with OUT the Lord.
ReplyDeleteVery Sad.
Graduation sounds like it is going to be great! My oldest will be graduating next year....I'm not ready for this at all. It seems like yesterday he was sitting in my lap while I read Dr. Suess's "Eye Book" to him for the hundredth time, lol. Now here is with only one year of school left!
ReplyDeleteThat was great that you got to go to a Tea Party. There was one about an hour from us but it was too far and too late in the day for us (plus we didn't have the gas money). But we know there will always be another Tea Party, lol, so we're hoping to go one. As someone mentoned before, there of course were your clueless liberal people having their own counter-protest. It seems that your screaming mobs are the liberal people, not us. Sigh, when will these people ever get it!
